Peacock bass fishing has been
good. In only 2 1/2days, a total of
1224 peacock bass were landed by 31 anglers, 61 of which were in the 10 - 16 lbs. class, 2 in the 17-19 lbs. class and 2 in the 20-22 lbs. class.
Fishing at the Floating Cabins at the remote headwaters are all good except, for the Urubaxi (see chart). The Black Water
Explorer yacht fishing trip on the Negro Channel continues to be the best in 8 years although, not as good as last few weeks since, water levels are very low making navigation difficult to reach the good areas and there is lots of competition.
WATER LEVELS AT OUR AMAZON PEACOCK BASS FISHERIES:
-
South: (Marmelos Indian Reservation) Water levels were perfect during July-August and, are now high which is normal for this time of the year.
- Mid-South: (Igoapaçú Indian Reservation) Water levels were perfect mid-October till mid-November and, are now high which is normal this time of the year.
-
Mid-North: (above the waterfalls of the Unini Preserve and South
Negro tributaries) Water levels at the headwaters of these Negro tributaries except, the Unini Preserve which is closed, are very low. There is even a yacht sanded at the mouth of the Cuiuini. There is little or no rain forecasted this week. Historically, water levels should be good for fishing at least until Dec 15th.
- North: (North Negro tributaries) Water levels at all
North Negro tributaries continue to be surprisingly
low. Two weeks ago, the
Negro had the best peacock bass fishing in the last 8 years but numbers are
slowly dropping since extremely low water levels and, over fishing from survival,
commercial and even sport fishing are causing an impact. Water levels are so low that most yacht fishing must be done south of Barcelos.Water levels are usually good for fishing from Nov 15th to Mar 15th but, this year it started
early in late September.
-
North-East: (Roraima State) Some of Río Branco tributaries
water levels (Preserves: Taperá, Xeurini, Omero, Shufari) are very good
which is normal for this time of the year, so we are reserving most of these
fisheries for Jan-March. Water levels are usually good for fishing from Nov 15th
to Mar 15th.

Peacock bass fishing has been good. In only 2 1/2 days,
a total of 2724 peacock bass were landed by 49 anglers, 100 of which
were in the 10 - 16 lbs. class, 12 in the 17-19 lbs. class, 4 in the 20-22
lbs. class and 3 in the 23-24 lbs. class.
The Black Water Explorer
yacht fishing trip on the Negro Channel continues
to be the best in 8 years because in the last 3-4 years water levels
have been high ("El Niño") giving fish time to repopulate.
However, fishing on
the Fly-In Floating Cabins at the remote headwaters
of the Xeurini and Shufaris are even better.

- North: (North Negro tributaries) Water levels at
all North Negro tributaries continue to be surprisingly
low for this time of the year with some of the best
peacock bass fishing in the last 8 years right on the main Negro channel!!.
There is no or little rain forecasted this week so water levels should
continue to be very good; however, over fishing from survival, commercial
and even sport fishing should cause an impact within 2-3 weeks. Water
levels are usually good only from Nov 15th to Mar 15th but, this year
it started early in late September.
- North-East: (Roraima State) Some of Río
Branco tributaries water levels (Preserves: Taperá, Xeurini,
Omero, Shufari) are fishable which is also unusual this
time of the year; however, water levels are rising due to last weeks
heavy rain plus there is a 60% chance of rain forecasted
for this week. Water levels are usually good only from Nov 15th to
Mar 15th.
