REPORT
Peacock Bass fishing continues to be very good except in one river due to extreme low waters and, in another river (click on chart) the start up was slow but should improve dramatically as the Fly-In Floating Cabins move upriver into low fishing pressure areas. In 2 ½ days a total of 1636 Peacock Bass were landed by 40 anglers, 106 of which were in the 10-16 lbs. class, 6 in the 17 - 19 lbs. class and, 4 in the 20 - 22 lbs. class.
WATER LEVELS AT OUR AMAZON PEACOCK BASS FISHERIES:
- North & Mid-North:(North Negro tributaries and South Negro Tributaries) Water levels at the Negro tributaries, with a few exceptions (click on chart) continue to be excellent and, in certain cases, too low even for our Fly-In Floating Cabins but, fortunately it rained copiously in these rivers and water levels should rise.
From the end of Oct. up to mid Nov. the Negro channel had the best Peacock
Bass fishing for the last 8 years but, fish size and quality has slowly dropped since over fishing from survival, commercial and even sport fishing may have caused an impact. Since our last report, water levels on the Negro channel rose a bit alleviating last week’s navigability issue.
-
North-East: (Roraima State) The Branco tributaries water levels on River Plate’s exclusive
fisheries (Taperá, Xeurini, Omero, Shufari) are extremely low even for the Fly-In
Floating Cabins.
- Mid-South: (Igoapaçú Indian Reservation) Water levels were perfect mid-October till mid-November and, are now high which is normal this time of the year.
- South: (Marmelos Indian Reservation)Water levels were perfect during July-August and, are now high which is normal for this time of the year.

Peacock Bass fishing continues to be very good. In two operations (see chart) the start up was slow but should improve dramatically as they move upriver into low fishing pressure areas. In 2 ½ days a total of 2166 Peacock
Bass were landed by 53 anglers, 133 of which were in the 10-16 lbs. class, 14 in the 17 - 19 lbs. class and, 8 in the 20 - 22 lbs. class .
WATER LEVELS AT OUR AMAZON PEACOCK BASS FISHERIES:
There is an ongoing excessive concern about low water levels . There is nothing to be alarmed!.
With the exception of the south Negro tributaries, water levels are not much lower than their historical average , and it should not affect fishing if it does not get much lower. Low water levels is what you need for good fishing. That is the reason River
Plate has only one
yacht to 6 shallow
drafting Fly In Floating Cabins !
The unusual aspects
about this years water levels are the following :
- The south Negro tributaries (Xeurini,
Cuiuini ,etc), where we have half of our Fly
In Floating Cabins , are still low and perfect (usually rises in Dec.);
- The Negro channel, where
our Balck Water Explorer
yacht and all other yachts fish, had low water
levels as early as September (usually it drops in Nov.) with some of the
best Peacock Bass fishing in the past
8 years.
- Maybe, the other unusual issue is
psychological: after so many years of unusual high waters on the
Negro channel, yacht anglers were getting used to high waters ……

Peacock Bass fishing at our Fly-In
Floating Cabins with one exception continues to be excellent despite the extremely low waters even for our Fly
In Floating Cabins . In 2 ½ days a total of 1741 Peacock
Bass were landed by 43 anglers, 134 of which were in the 10-16 lbs. class, 11 in the 17 - 19 lbs. class , 4 in the 20 - 22 lbs. class and 1 twenty three pounder.
WATER LEVELS AT OUR AMAZON PEACOCK BASS FISHERIES:
- North: (North Negro tributaries)Water
levels at the Negro tributaries, with a few exceptions (see chart) continue
to be excellent and, in certain cases, too low even for our Fly-In
Floating Cabins and, even lower than our last weeks report! From the end of
Oct. up to mid Nov. the Negro channel had the best Peacock
Bass fishing for the last 8 years but, fish size has slowly dropped since extremely
low water levels and, over fishing from survival, commercial and even sport
fishing may have caused an impact. As mentioned in our last report water
levels rose a bit after the Christmas holidays heavy rains,
which have alleviated last month’s navigability issue on the Negro
channel. But, this last week, it rained very little or nothing and, navigability
on the Negro channel has become very difficult and restricted to
a small area . Water levels are usually good for fishing
from Nov. 15th to Mar. 15th but, this year it started early in September.
-
Mid-North: (South Negro tributaries and the Unini Preserve)Water levels at the headwaters of these Negro
tributaries, except the Unini, are still low which “make it exclusive” for
our Fly-In Floating Cabins. We have therefore moved some of our operations in
to these fisheries (reserving some of our exclusive fisheries in the Roraima
State for late Jan to Mar). The mid- North fisheries usually start flooding during
this time of the year.
-
North-East: (Roraima State)The
Branco tributaries water levels on River Plate’s exclusive fisheries (Taperá,
Xeurini, Omero, Shufari) are extremely low even for the Fly-In
Floating Cabins. Fishing should be excellent at all fisheries if water levels do not continue
to drop which might affect navigability. We have reserved most of these fisheries
for Jan-March. Water levels are usually good for fishing from Nov 15th to Mar
15th.
- Mid-South: (Igoapaçú Indian Reservation) Water
levels were perfect mid-October till mid-November and, are now high which
is normal this time of the year.
- South: (Marmelos Indian Reservation)Water
levels were perfect during July-August and, are now high which is normal
for this time of the year.
