Peacock bass fishing at our Fly-In Floating
Cabin at the headwaters of the Tapera has been excellent in terms of big fish.
In only 1 day (instead of 2 ½), a total of 43 Peacock
Bass were landed
by only 3 anglers, 5 of which were in the 10-16 lbs. class, 2 in the 17 - 19 lbs.
class and 1 in the 20 - 22 lbs. class.
WATER LEVELS AT OUR AMAZON PEACOCK BASS FISHERIES:
- North: (North Negro tributaries) Water levels at the Negro tributaries continue to be all fishable. During the end of Oct up to mid Nov, the Negro channel itself had the best Peacock Bass fishing in the last 8 years but fish size is slowly dropping since extremely low water levels and, over fishing from survival, commercial and even sport fishing are causing an impact. Water levels are so low that most yacht Peacock Bass fishing must be done south of Barcelos. However, last weeks rain at the headwater of the Negro might alleviate the navigability issue. Water levels are usually good for fishing from Nov 15th to Mar 15th but, this year it started early in late September.
-
Mid-North: (South Negro tributaries and the Unini Preserve)
Water levels at the headwaters of these Negro tributaries are still low which "make it exclusive" for our Fly-In Floating Cabins. Historically, water levels are good for fishing until Dec 15th. However, this year it seems that fishing might be good into January.
-
North-East: (Roraima State) The Branco tributaries water levels on River Plate’s exclusive fisheries (Taperá, Xeurini, Omero, Shufari) are extremely low even for the Fly-In Floating Cabins. Fortunately, it has continued to rain a bit in the last 6 days at the Branco headwaters. Fishing should be excellent at all fisheries. We have reserved most of these fisheries for Jan-March. Water levels are usually good for fishing from Nov 15th to Mar 15th.
- South: (Marmelos Indian Reservation) Water levels were perfect during July-August and, are now high which is normal for this time of the year.
- Mid-South: (Igoapaçú Indian Reservation) Water levels were perfect mid-October till mid-November and, are now high which is normal this time of the year.

Peacock bass fishing has been good in terms of big fish. In only 2 1/2days, a total of
1808 peacock bass were landed by 40 anglers, 101 of which were in the 10 - 16 lbs. class, 8 in the 17-19 lbs. class, 8 in the 20-22 lbs. class, 1 in the 24 lbs. class and 1 in the 25 lbs. class.
Fishing at the Floating Cabins at the remote headwaters are all good (see the Caures in chart). The Black Water
Explorer yacht fishing trip on the Negro Channel continues to be the best in 8 years although, not as good as last few weeks since, water levels are very low making navigation difficult to reach the good areas and there is lots of competition.
