PEACOCK BASS FISHING REPORTS

Listed bellow are the Mid-Week Fishing Reports as rushed by e-mail to our agents every Thursday in order that our week-end incoming guests may be duly informed before departure. As such, these reports are for only 3 days (instead of the full week).

Please note, these are true weights … sometimes in the Amazon the 17-19 lbs. class are considered 20 lbs. trophies…

Fishing is very good. Water levels are excellent in all headwaters but low in the mouth which is normal this time of the year. In only 3 days, a total of 758 fish were landed by 12 anglers, 46 of which were in the 10 - 16 lbs. class, 9 were in the 17 – 19 lbs. class, 2 were 20 lbs. and 2 were 21 lbs. (Extrapolating to 6½ days, this would be equivalent to 1.640 fish, with 8 fish over 20 lbs.!)

* North-East: (Roraima State) The Río Branco tributaries water levels (Taperá, Xeurini, Omero, etc.) which were excellent in December and January, are almost to low and we might transfer our Cabins out to the headwaters of the Río Negro tributaries.
* North: (Barcelo’s area) Water levels at all Río Negro tributaries are excellent at the headwaters, but low at the mouth which is normal this time of the year.
* Mid North: (above the waterfalls of the Unini) Water levels, which were perfect “off and on” during December and January, are perfect at this time (which is not normal for this time of the year).
* Mid South: (Igoapaçú, Matupiri, Tupana, etc.)Water levels, which were perfect during September-October, are unfishable high, which if normal for this time of the year.
* South: (Manicoré, Marmelos, etc.)Water levels, which were perfect during June-September, are unfishable high, which is normal for this time of the year.

Fishing is very good to excellent.
In only 3 days, a total of 3.094 fish were landed by 50 anglers, 164 of which were in the 10 - 16 lbs. class, 24 were in the 17 – 19 lbs. class, 6 were 20 lbs., 3 were 22 lbs. and 1 was 23 lbs.

You will notice the trade of between numbers and trophies. The Taperá and Jufarí with 16 anglers fishing, is high in numbers and low in trophies (1.797 fish with only 6 over 17 lbs.) which are excellent for fly fishing for first time in the Amazon bait-casters. And, the remaining rivers with 34 anglers fishing is high in trophies and low in numbers (1.297 fish with as many as 27 over 17 lbs.) which are excellent for repeating bait-casters; ie.: here, there is 700% more trophies.

* North-East: (Roraima State) The Río Branco tributaries water levels (Taperá, Xeurini, Omero, etc.) which were excellent in December and January, are almost to low and we might transfer our Cabins out to the headwaters of the Río Negro tributaries.
* North: (Taperá’s area) Water levels are 2-3 feet too high at the mouth of most Negro tributaries but excellent at the headwaters.
* Mid North: (above the waterfalls of the Unini) Water levels, which were perfect “off and on” during December and January, are perfect at this time (which is not normal for this time of the year).
* Mid South: (Igoapaçú, Matupiri, Tupana, etc.) Water levels, which were perfect during September-October, are unfishable high, which if normal for this time of the year.
* South: (Manicoré, Marmelos, etc.) Water levels, which were perfect during June-September, are unfishable high, which is normal for this time of the year.
