PEACOCK BASS FISHING REPORTS - Nov/Dec. 2008

Listed bellow are the Mid-Week Fishing Reports as rushed by e-mail to our agents every Thursday in order that our week-end incoming guests may be duly informed before departure. As such, these reports are for only 2 days (instead of the full week).

Please note, these are true weights … sometimes in the Amazon the 17-19 lbs. class are considered 20 lbs. trophies…

Decembar 13th - December 14th, 2008

Fishing at the mouth of our exclusive Homero has been excellent and not so well on the mouth of the Tapera. In only 2 days, a total of 616 fish were landed by 17 anglers: 34 fish were in the 10 - 16 lbs. class and 2 in the 17 - 19 lbs. class.

All of River Plate's low fishing pressure areas at the remote headwaters of the Negro and Branco effluents continue to have high water levels but they are very slooooowlyy dropping. Let us keep our fingers crossed that it does not rain during the Christmas recess ..

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

December 7th - December 8th, 2008

Fishing at the mouth of our exclusive Xeurini has been excellent and, at the mouth of our other exclusives such as, the Homero and Shufaris have been acceptable. In only 2 days, a total of 794 fish were landed by 22 anglers: 18 fish were in the 10 - 16 lbs. class.

We will  be fully operational next week as fishing.  However ,  guests must be advised that water levels are in the jungle and if it does not rain fishing can go to excellent. However, if it should rain it can go the other way.

All of River Plate's low fishing pressure areas at the remote headwaters of the Negro and Branco effluents continue to have high water levels but they are very slooooowlyy dropping.

November 30th - December 1st, 2008

Fishing at the mouth of our exclusive Xeurini has been excellent! In only 2 days, a total of 348 fish were landed by 6 anglers: 5 fish were in the 10 - 16 lbs. class.

Heads up! We are not sure to be fully operational next week. There was a lot of rain last Monday (7 days ago) at the Branco, where we have all our operations. We will evaluate and confirm by tomorrow afternoon.

All of River Plate's low fishing pressure areas at the remote headwaters of the Negro and Branco effluents continue to have high water levels but they are now dropping.

November 23rd - 24th, 2008

Except for one party, fishing is good. In only 2 days, a total of 1080 fish were landed by 27 anglers: 29 fish were in the 10 - 16 lbs. class, 29 fish were in the 17 - 19 lbs. class and 0 was in the 20 - 22 lbs.

We will be fully operational next week on the Branco effluents. All of River Plate's low fishing pressure areas at the remote headwaters of the Negro and Branco effluents continue to have high water levels; however, fortunately, River Plate has a few exclusive effluents on the Branco with fishable water levels only at the mouth which are fishing well.

It is crucial to have exclusives since the Branco river main channel and its effluents mouths are congested with a melee of sport fishing boats!!

November 15th-16th, 2008

We will be fully operational next week as water levels are no longer a substantial risk factor. All of River Plate's low fishing pressure areas at the headwaters of the Negro and Branco effluents continue to have high water levels; however, fortunately, River Plate has a few protected effluents on the Branco which are with low water levels at the mouth and fishing well.

In only 2 days, a total of 2053 fish were landed by 48 anglers: 73 fish were in the 10 - 16 lbs. class, 6 were in the 17 - 19 lbs. class and 1 was in the 20 - 22 lbs.

Fishing on the Branco basin is good and improving as water levels continue to drop even despite the rain fall (see images) .They continued to fall because as there was no significant rainfall last week it more than offset this weeks rain.

However, one Fly In Floating Cabin on the Cauress, a Negro effluent, which fished well last week has gone to fair since water levels are rising a bit due to rain fall at the Negro headwaters (see light orange in the image). Therefore, next week we will run all our operations on the Branco basin.

November 10th-11th, 2008

In only 2 days, a total of  842  fish were landed by  21  anglers:  34  fish were in the 10 - 16 lbs. class,  5  were in the 17 - 19 lbs. class and 0 were in the 20 - 22 lbs.

Fishing was fair up to  this last Sunday but improving significantly yesterday and this morning as water levels on the Branco basin continue to drop. The 5-day accumulated rainfall map continues to show no significant  rainfall on  the Branco basin. Nevertheless , water levels are still a risk factor since they are near the jungle line.

Most all of River Plate's low fishing pressure areas  are  at the headwaters of the Negro  effluents which  are still   too  high but, fortunately the Negro is now also dropping.

November 1st - 3rd, 2008

In only 2 days, a total of 586 fish were landed by 22 anglers: 2 fish were in the 10 - 16 lbs. class, 0 were in the 17 - 19 lbs. class and 0 were in the 20 - 22 lbs. class and accumulated 6-day rain fall.

rain fall Amazon fishingFishing has been bad in terms of quantity and specially in size at one of our  Fly In Floating Cabins  and the Black Water Explorer on the lower Shufaris due to high waters. These guests were advised upfront this could happen.. and some have rescheduled. (All competitors are fishing on Negro channel down river from Barcelos with similar water levels as that of the lower Shufaris but, perhaps, with worst fishing than River Plates operations   since their area has not been protected against over fishing. )

Most all of River Plate's low fishing pressure areas  are  at the headwaters of the Negro  effluents which  are still to high.  Although at  our fisheries there is not  much rain , the last 10  days of  hard  rain at the Nergro  headwaters is raising  water levels to the point that  affluents cannot drain.   In the rain map the  orange area is the headwaters of the Negro.

If this situation persist guest run the risk of having even worst fishing than that  of the  attached 2-day report.
