AMAZON PEACOCK BASS FISHING REPORT
(Only 1st day of Winter Season, Dec. 29, 2002)
- Fly-In
Cabin Barges Unini (past water falls): Water
levels are perfect. Seven (4) anglers (only 2
know how to fish) caught 17 of which 2 peacocks were
in the 12 - 18 lb. class, and 1 was in the 20
lb class. Busy top-water bait casters were catching
equivalent 25 - 30 fish/boat/day.
- Fly-In
Cabin Barges Tapera: Water levels are perfect.
Six (6) anglers caught in 4 hours 106 of which
1 peacock was in the 12 - 18 lbs
class. Busy top-water bait casters were catchin
40 - 50 fish/boat/day.
- Fly-In
Amazon Angel on the Atauí: Water levels
are perfect. Seven (7) anglers caught in 6 hours
52 of which 2 peacocks were in
the 12 - 18 lbs class. Busy top-water bait casters
were catching 30/35 fish/boat/day.
All other operations have stopped for the New Year
holiday.
WATER LEVELS:
- North Rio Negro tributaries
and Río Branco tributaries: It
has not rained much this last week, except on the
South tributaries above Barcelos. The North Negro
tributaries are all fishable and the South tributaries
are all fishable except the Urubaxi which should
be fishable in 7 - 10 days. We have one Fly-In
Cabin Barges at the headwaters of the Cuiuini
and we have 2 on the Tapera and 1 on the Araca.
- Mid Río Negro tributaries (above
the waterfalls of the Jaú, Carabinani, Unini,
etc) Water levels are perfect. Fishing should be
Ok for the next 2 or 3 weeks. We have one Fly-In
Cabin Barges past the water falls of the Unini
which will remain for 1 or 2 weeks.
- Mid South (Igaopacu,
Matupiri, etc) Water levels are unfishably high which
is normal for this time of the year. We have already
moved our Fly-In
Cabin Barges out of this area.
- South (Roosevelt,
Manicoré, Novo Aripuana, etc) Water levels
are unfishably high which is normal for this time
of the year. We have already moved our Fly-In
Cabin Barges out of this area.
AMAZON PEACOCK BASS FISHING REPORT ( Dec. 10 - 16,
2002)
CATCH: TOTAL 1460 FISH BY 12
ANGLERS
- Fly-In
Cabin Barges past the shallows on the Jufari
did excellent at the headwaters where water levels
are almost perfect. 1030 fish were caught by 6
anglers of which 42 fish were in the 13 - 19 class,
4 fish were over 20 lbs and 1 a little over 25
lbs. Skillful top-water bait casters were catching
35 - 45 fish/boat/day and fly fishermen 40 - 50
fish/boat/day.
- Amazon
Angel on the mouth of the Caurés: 6
anglers produced 430 fish of which 20 were in the
13 - 19 lbs class and 1 over 20 lbs.
WATER LEVELS FOR THE FIRST HALF OF
THE WEEK:
- North West (Barcelos
area) Water levels continue dropping a little slower.
It rained very little in the northern tributaries.
Water levels in all northern tributaries are fishable,
and a few of the Southern tributaries are fishable
but a further 6" drop is necessary.
- North East (Río
Branco) Water levels are fishable in its tributaries,
we have located one of our Fly-In
Cabin Barges in this area.
- Mid North (above
the waterfalls of the Jaú, Carabinani, Uinini,
etc) Water levels are still fishable. In anticipation
of high water on this river, which is normal for
this time of the year, we will keep the Fly-In
Cabin Barges at the waterfalls near the mouth.
- Mid South (Igaopacu,
Matupiri, etc) Water levels were perfect during October
- November but are now unfishably high, which is
normal for this time of the year.
- South (Manicoré,
Marmelos, etc) Water levels, were perfect during
June - September but are now unfishably high, which
is normal for this time of the year.
AMAZON PEACOCK BASS FISHING REPORT (Dec.
1 - 8)
- Fly-In
Cabin Barges Unini
(90 miles past water falls): Water
levels are perfect. Eight anglers
caught 748 of which 46 peacocks were in the 12 - 17 lb. class, 3
in the 20 lbs class and 1 in the 22 lb
class. Busy top-water bait casters
were catching 30 - 35 fish/boat/day.
- Amazon
Angel on the Matupiri:
The Amazon Angel has been transferred
down to this River 10 days ago (from
the Barcelos area). Water level is perfect.
Eight anglers caught 885 of
which 59 peacocks were in the 12
- 17 lb. class and 2 in the 20lb class. Busy
top-water bait casters were catching 20
- 25 fish/boat/day.
- Fly-In Cabin Barges on
the Unini (20 miles past the water falls): water
level are perfect but Cabin Barges
are still to near the mouth's fishing
pressure. Equivalent to only four
anglers caught 105 peacocks in
an equivalent of only 2 days of which 10 peacocks
were in the 12 - 17 lb. class, 1 in
the 19 lb. class. Busy
top-water bait casters were catching 20
- 25 fish/boat/day.
- Fly-In
Cabin Barges on
the Cuiuni: The party
decided to fish in March since water
levels are high. The Cabin Barges are
in stand-by.
WATER LEVELS:
- North
Rio Negro tributaries and Río
Branco tributaries. It
has not rained much this last week.
The headwaters and the mouth of
the Negro tributaries should be fishable
in 7 - 15 days, since the Rio Negro
and Branco are sufficiently low to
drain it's tributaries. Water
levels are dropping but still 2 - 3
ft. to high especially in the
mid section of the tributaries. We
have only one
Fly-In
Cabin Barges at the headwaters
of the Cuiuini on stand-by.
- Mid Río
Negro tributaries (above the waterfalls
of the Jaú, Carabinani, Unini,
etc) Water levels are fishable
and dropping. Fishing should be Ok for the
next 1 - 2 months. We have one
Fly-In Cabin Barges 90 miles past the water
falls of the Unini and we have a 2nd.
Cabin Barges 20 miles above the water
falls and moving upwards.
- Mid
South (Igaopacu, Matupiri, etc) Water
levels are perfect
and still have not rising much.
We have moved the
Amazon Angel back to this area 10 days ago.
- South (Roosevelt, Manicoré, Novo
Aripuana, etc) Water levels are unfishable
high which is normal for this time
of the year. We have already
moved our Fly-In
Cabin Barges out of
this area.
AMAZON PEACOCK BASS FISHING REPORT
(Nov.24 - Dec.1)
* Amazon
Angel on the mouth Matupiri:
The Amazon Angel has just been transferred
down to this River (from the Barcelos
area). Water level is perfect. This party
were not avid fishermen. Results could have
been better!. Equivalent of 4 anglers caught 250 of
which 18 peacocks were in the 12
- 17 lb. class and 1 in the 20lb class. Busy
top-water bait casters were catching 20
- 25 fish/boat/day.
WATER LEVELS:
- North
Rio Negro tributaries and Río
Branco tributaries. It has stopped raining
the last 7 days. The headwaters of the
Negro tributaries should be fishable in 7
- 15 days. Water levels have just started
to drop since our last report. We
have only one Fly-In
Cabin Barges in
the headwaters of the Cuiuini as a standby.
- Mid Río
Negro tributaries (above
the waterfalls of the Jaú,
Carabinani, Unini, etc) Water
levels are almost fishable and
dropping. Although,
it has rained for the last 6 days,
it is still just on the jungle
line. If it does not continue to rain,
fishing should be Ok for the
next 1 - 2
months. We have one Fly-In Cabin Barges
3 hrs. past the water falls
of the Unini and we have just moved
1 hour above the water falls a
2nd. Cabin Barges. Levels at
the very headwaters (Preto of the Unini)
is still high due to the rain of the
last two weeks.

levels are perfect
and still have not rising much.
We have
moved the
Amazon Angel back to this
area.

AMAZON PEACOCK BASS FISHING REPORT
(Nov. 17 - 24)
- Fly-In
Cabin Barges on
the head waters Cuiuni: water
level are high. Guests were
informed but still wished to go.
Eight anglers caught 205
peacocks of which 10 peacocks
were in the 12 - 17 lb. class,
1 in the 20 lb. class. Busy
top-water bait casters were catching 20
- 25 fish/boat/day.
- Fly-In Cabin
Barge Unini:
Water a bit high but fishable.
This party were not of avid fishermen.
Results could have been better!.
Equivalent of 6 anglers caught 390 of
which 30 peacocks were in
the 12
- 17 lb. class, 3 in the
20 lbs class and 1 in the 24 lb

WATER LEVELS:
- North
Rio Negro tributaries and Río
Branco tributaries. It has
continued to rain the last 7
days but not much. The north Rio
Negro is not fishable for
at least 7-15 days, which could happen
this time of the year. Water levels
have risen another 1ft since our last
report. We have only one
Fly-In Cabin Barges in the headwaters
of the Cuiuini as a standby.
- Mid Río
Negro tributaries (above
the waterfalls of the Jaú, Carabinani,
Unini, etc) Water levels are still
Ok. Although, it has rained for
the last 6 days, it is still just
below the jungle line. If it does not
continue to rain, fishing should be
Ok the next 2 - 3 months but it is
a risky situation. We have one Fly-In
Cabin Barges 3 hrs. past the water
falls of the Unini and next couple
of days we'll have a 2nd. Cabin Barges. Levels
at the very headwaters (Preto of the
Unini) is high due to the rain of the
last two weeks.

levels are fishable
and still have not rising much.
We have moved the

10 - 17)
- Fly-In
Cabin Barges on
the head waters Cuiuni: water
level are high. 8 anglers caught 402
peacocks of which 11 peacocks
were in the 12 - 17 lb. class,
1 in the 20 lb. class. Busy
top-water bait casters were catching 20
- 25 fish/boat/day.
- Fly-In Cabin
Barge Unini: Equivalent of 7 anglers
caught 515 of
which 45 peacocks were in the 12
- 17 lb. class, 3 in the
19 lb class, 2 in the 20 lbs class
and 1 in the 21 lb class. Busy
top-water bait casters were catching 30
- 35
fish/boat/day.
- Fly-In Cabin
Barges on
the Araca: Again Disastrous! High
water levels affect result a lot
more than the Cuiuni. (Regretfully
Nick's Stand Cabins are only operating
in December. Therefore, we could
not move
this party to another river). 8
anglers caught only 263 of
which 13 peacocks were
in the 12 - 17 lb. class, 2
was in the 18 lb class, and 1
was in the 20 lbs. class Busy

- 10 fish/boat/day.

of which 15 were in the 12 - 17
lb class, 4 in the 19 lbs class. Busy
top-water bait casters were catching 20

WATER LEVELS:

Branco tributaries. It continued
to rain the last 7 days, the
north Rio Negro is not fishable
which could happen this time of the
year. Water levels have risen
another 2ft since our last report. We
have one Fly-In Cabin Barges on
the Araca, and a 2nd. Fly-In Cabin
Barges in the headwaters of the Cuiuini. We
are transferring both of them
out of the Barcelos area and into
Mid Rio Negro Tributaries this next
week. Even if it stops raining it will
take 15 - 20 days for it to
be fishable.
- Mid Río
Negro tributaries (above
the waterfalls of the Jaú,
Carabinani, Unini, etc) Water
levels are still
Ok. Although, it has rained for
the last 6 days, it is still
2 - 3 feet below the jungle line.
If it does not continue to rain,
fishing should be Ok the next 2

Fly-In Cabin Barges 3 hrs. past the water
falls of the Unini. Levels

5 in the 22 lb., 3 in the 24 lb. class
and 2 in the 25 lb. class. Busy
top-water bait casters were catching 30
- 35 fish/boat/day.

anglers caught 415 of
which 38 peacocks
were in the 12 - 17 lb. class,
13 as in the 18 lb class, 4 in
the 23 lbs class and 2 in the 24

which 25 peacocks were
in the 12 - 17 lb. class, 1
as in the 18 lb class and 1
were in the 20 lbs. class Busy
top-water bait casters were catching 40
- 50 fish/boat/day and busy
fly-fisherman over 150 fish/boat/day
(one day one boat caught 310!!)

Angel on the Matupiri: 12 anglers
caught 2047 of which 57 were
in the 12 - 17 lb class, 3 in
the 20 lbs class. Busy
top-water bait casters were catching 40
- 50 fish/boat/day but
busy fly-fisherman 80 fish/boat/day.
WATER LEVELS:

Rio Negro tributaries and Río
Branco tributaries. Unexplainably,
a few headwaters are very fishable. It
has rained a little last week
but, water levels continue to drop. However,
this pattern could change since it
is still too early. Water level should
be reliable perhaps early
November, which is 2 weeks earlier
than normal. Therefore we might have
to move our Fly-In Cabin Barges out
of the headwaters of the Araca,
elsewhere if water levels rise.

Angel (at the mouth). Water levels
are fishable but turning

mid Negro tributaries this week.

29 - October 6)
* Fly-In
Cabin Barges on
the Araca: This river is our last 12
- 18 lbs class fishery! 8 anglers
only caught 466 of which 41 peacocks were
in the 12- 17 lb class, 15
in the 18 lb class!, and 1 in the 22
lbs. class. Busy top-water bait
casters were catching 20 - 30
fish/boat/day.
* Fly-In Cabin
Barges on the Matupiri: 7 anglers
caught 1190 of which 18 peacocks were in the 12 - 17 lb. class, 1
as in the 18 lb class and 2 were
in the 20 lbs. class Busy
top-water bait casters were catching 40
- 50 fish/boat/day and busy fly-fisherman over 150
fish/boat/day.
* Amazon
Angel on
the Matupiri: 12 anglers caught

etc) This is where we are fishing
with our Cabin Barges (at the headwaters)
and Amazon Angel (at the mouth). Water
levels are fishable which is normal for
this time. We should move our Cabin Barges
and Amazon Angel north to the mid Negro tributaries
by mid October.
- South (Roosevelt,
Manicoré, Novo Aripuana, etc) Water
levels are unfishable high which
is normal for this time of the year. We
have already moved our Fly-In Cabin Barges
out of this area.
AMAZON PEACOCK BASS FISHING
REPORT (September 14 - 22)
* Fly-In Cabin Barges on the Amapa
(headwaters of the Matupiri): 6 anglers
only caught 730 of which 23 peacocks were in the 8 - 12 lb class, and 1
in the 18 lb class. Busy top-water bait
casters were catching 30 - 40 fish/boat/day.
AMAZON PEACOCK BASS FISHING
REPORT (September 22 - 29)
* Fly-In
Cabin Barges on the Matupiri: 7 anglers
caught 1220 of which 37 peacocks were in the 8 - 12 lb class and 3 were in
the 18 lb class. Busy top-water
bait casters were catching 40 - 50
fish/boat/day and busy fly-fisherman over 150
fish/boat/day.
* Amazon
Angel on tha Matupiri: 12
anglers caught 2030 of which 68 were in the 8 -
12 lb class, 8 were in the 18 lbs. class, 2 in
the 20 lbs class. Busy top-water bait
casters were catching 40 - 50 fish/boat/day but
busy fly-fisherman 80 fish/boat/day.
WATER LEVELS:
- North
Rio Negro tributaries and Río
Branco tributaries. Surprisingly, a few
headwaters are fishable. It has almost
not rained for the last two weeks and,
water levels have dropped substantially. However,
this pattern could change since it is still too
early. Water level should be reliable perhaps early
November, which is 2 weeks earlier than normal.

Cabin Barges to the headwaters of
the Araca.
- Mid Río
Negro tributaries (above the
waterfalls of the Jaú, Carabinani, Unini, etc) Water
levels are 1-3 feet too high, which
is normal for this time of the
year. It has rained little for
the last two weeks and, water levels are
dropping. We hope it should be fishable
by mid October, which is 1 week
earlier than normal. Therefore we're
moving one of our Fly-In Cabin Barges to one of the headwaters.
- Mid
South (Igaopacu,
Matupiri, etc) This
is where we are fishing with our Cabin Barges
(at the headwaters) and Amazon Angel (at the mouth). Water
levels are fishable which is normal for
this time of the year up to mid October.
- South (Roosevelt, Manicoré, Novo
Aripuana, etc) Water levels are rising which
is normal for this time of the year. We
have already moved our Fly-In Cabin Barges
out of this area.
AMAZON PEACOCK BASS FISHING
REPORT (August 17 - 24)
* Fly-In Cabin Barges on
the Amapa (headwaters of the Matupiri): 8 anglers
for only 4 full fishing days caught 480 of
which 25 peacocks were in the 8
- 12 lb class, and 2 in the 18 lb class. Busy
top-water bait casters were catching 20 - 30
fish/boat/day.
AMAZON PEACOCK BASS FISHING
REPORT (August 24 - 31)
* Fly-In Cabin Barges on
the Amapa (headwaters of the Matupiri): Only 4 anglers
caught 583 of which 37 peacocks
were in the 8 - 12 lb class and 3 were in
the 18 lb class. Busy top-water
bait casters were catching 39 - 45 fish/boat/day.
WATER LEVELS:
- North
Rio Negro tributaries and Río
Branco tributaries, as expected, are
high. It has rained substancially
for the last two weeks and, water
levels, which were dropping, are rising slightly. Water
level should be fishable perhaps mid
November, which is 1 week earlier
than normal.
- Mid Río
Negro tributaries (above
the waterfalls of the Jaú,
Carabinani, Unini, etc) Water
levels are 5-6 feet too high,
which is normal for this
time of the year. It has rained for
the last two weeks and, water
levels that
were dropping have risen slightly. We
hope it should be fishable by mid
of October, which is 1 weeks earlier
than normal. Therefore
we're moving one of our Fly-In Cabin
Barges to one of the rivers
to the headwaters
in this area.

* Fly-In Cabin Barges on the Madeirinha, a Roosevelt
(affluent) only 4 anglers
caught 540 of which 58 peacocks were
in the 8 - 12 lb, 8 payara 9 - 15 lbs.,
10 bicudas 4 - 10 lbs., etc. Busy
top-water bait casters were catching 65 - 75

Roosevelt (affluent) 8 anglers
caught 324 of which 35 peacocks were in the 8 - 12 lb, 12 payara 9 - 15

(cat-fish) up to 90 lbs. !! Busy
top-water bait casters were catching 39 - 45
fish/boat/day.

are now fishing the Roosevelt. Water
levels are perfect but
rising fast which is normal for
this time of the year.
