Center for our Agents: |
River Plate is the only outfitter in Brazil that has legally obtained fishing permits for Indian reserves by negotiating in good faith with the Brazilian government authorities.
These permits restrict potentially damaging commercial (for profit) fishing, so our arrangements greatly benefit the Indian tribes by preserving land, water courses and wildlife in these delicate ecosystems.
We operate with “zero footprint” procedures—spending very little actual time in the rainforest (guests are either in the fishing boats or eating and resting in our floating cabanas), and by using many biodegradable products and carefully removing all garbage and signs of our passing.
FISH TAGGING PROJECT
In
2001, River Plate began sponsoring the first long
term official tagging project with Amazon Research
Institute to determine the impact on Peacock Bass populations of "catch and release" fishing.
PRESERVING THE RAINFOREST
Conscientious
of its conservationist role, River Plate has
created with the Amazon Counties a total of 3.5
millon acres in Preservation Parks in the River
basins of the Marmelos, Matupiri, Itapera, and
Shufari Rivers. Between 1998 and 2003, River
Plate distributed the equivalent of 30 tons of
food in some of these parks in recriprocation
for curtailing commercial fishing. We have also
donated a great deal of money to pay for park
wardens and their outpost infrastructures.
HUMANITARIAN AID
In
1994, River Plate built a medical care facility
for the county of Manicore, and in 1998 donated
20 acres of urban land to the town of Roranopolis
for public housing for homeless jungle migrants.
We will continue to provide food and monetary support
to jungle communities and individuals touched by
our angling operations.
